BENTLEY CC - NEWS

12/07/2010

Bentley CC have reached the last 16 of the national stage of the Village Cup, which means they are now just 3 wins away from a Lord's final.  The next game is on Sunday 18th July at Coxtie Green Road against High Halstow from Kent.  We would very much appreciate any support, and there will be a barbeque on all day as well as the bar being open from 12.

Adult teas allowance has now been moved up to £35 with immediate effect.

We are also looking to make our 50 club into a 100 club.  If you would like any more information on this, please speak to Brian Pagett.

Finally, we will be installing a new bigger and better television in the clubhouse as soon as possible, with a view to showing as many World Cup games as possible.  As usual, any support from all club members at these events is much appreciated.

In the inaugural 8-a-Cider, the Vipers led by Matt Coleman emerged victorious having beaten the favoured Tigers in the last round.  Thanks to everyone to their support of the day, which was a great success.

2) Tigers

3) Hawks

4) Sharks

New for this season, the T.Rippon website will be keeping averages for the whole of the Premier division.  To find out the current standings, just go to the T.Rippon site and click "Premier Stats".

This season, some second XI games will have official umpires.  Because of the ad hoc nature of this, we will have to pay for them on the day.  Normally, a change of match subs mid-season requires an EGM.  On this occasion, the committee has decided that it is a no-brainer that the Seconds should pay an extra 50p on top of normal match subs when they have official umpires, much as the 1st XI do.  However, if you have any complaints about this, please make them known to Dave Guthrie.

One other small piece of news that was decided a couple of months ago - to reflect the fact that fewer Sunday games are now played, the requirements for end of season averages for the 1's and 2's have been decreased to 12 innings and 75 overs.

Please see below for the social events for the first half of the season.

Saturday 8th May, from 8ish - Lagers of the World night. We have (at least) 12 lagers from around the world not widely available in the UK for one night only - experience 2 or 3 beers you might not have had before, or try to work your way through the lot...

Sunday 23rd May - Bentley 7-a-Cider. Don't be put off by the abysmal pun. We are currently looking into possibly doing a colts tournament in the morning (details and format to be confirmed by your coach), followed by an adult 7-a-side competition in the afternoon. The bar will be open from 12 (naturally), and there will be a barbie in the afternoon. We will also have 4 different types of Brothers Festival cider available on the Saturday (Pear, Toffee Apple, Strawberry and Lemon), and whatever is left over will be sold on Sunday too. The afternoon tournament is open to all over the age of U13, and we will fit the format of the tournament around the amount we get interested. Whether you are an U15, a regular player or an old pro who fancies dusting off his whites "one more time" and showing the younger ones how it is done, all are welcome. I will put more details on the website over the next week or so, and make sure you sign up before 17th May if you are interested.

Throughout June - We will be screening World Cup games at the club on Friday and Saturday nights. The first two England games (on Saturday 12th and Friday 18th) will be on at the club, and we are looking at the logistics of getting a projector or second screen up for them (any technical advice greatly appreciated!). We will work it from there depending on which dates England's knock out games fall on and at which stage they decide to heroically lose on penalties.

Saturday 26th June - Snail Racing Night. Yes, this is exactly as it sounds. Similar in format to the race night of previous years, this time the races are between cartoon snails, who don't always race fair! You will be badgered by someone at the club at some point in late May/early June regarding tri-casts, snail sponsoring and race sponsoring - see the website or http://www.fundeo.com/race_nights_2.aspx for more details.

If you have been to the club this year, you will have noticed that there have been some improvements to the ground including the renovation of the 4th team square which will benefit adults and colts alike. Over the past couple of years, we have also added wickets to the main square and purchased new scoreboards for both pitches. Our next aim is to get new net surfaces up and running, again something that will benefit the whole club. We simply cannot keep providing these facilities without your help at these functions. Every event is open to all, including friends and family, so any support you can give is greatly appreciated.

There are more details on all events available on the social page of the website and I will email reminders about a week before each event, but if you would like to know any more about any of these please let me know.

Following on from the last update, we are delighted that Martin Larrett has been awarded a Sky Sports Coaches Award 2010 for all his hard work at the club.  We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on this richly deserved accolade.  Because of this, Martin is now also on the shortlist for the regional award.

It is with regret that we announce that Martin Larrett has been forced to stand down from his role as colts co-ordinator due to work commitments.  We thank him for his hard work in the role, and wish him all the best for the future.  If anyone is interested in taking up this role or would like more information, please contact Dave Guthrie.

Cricket Force

Once again, we will be taking part in Cricket Force this year.  Cricket Force is a scheme in which we ensure that the club is ready to run at the start of the season.  Previous years have seen us renovate the kitchen, install the 4th team chalet and paint the pavilion among other things.  This year, as well as the usual pavilion, sightscreen and scoreboard preparing, we have a couple of other projects.  Firstly, we need to take the fence back on the far side of the 4th team pitch.  Not only will this benefit both adult and colt players, it will also help us greatly when it comes to Colts Finals Day which is being held at Bentley in September.  We also need to put up the photo frames in the pavilion, as I am sure you will agree it looked quite bare last year (Seed Potatoes aside).  There will also be bacon sandwiches available throughout the day, with proceeds going to charity.

Cricket Force will be held on 27th and 28th March at the club, and ALL club members are encouraged to attend at least one day.  Work will begin on both days at around 11am.

Cricket Week

We are looking to hold a cricket week again this year.  The dates we have in mind are Monday 12th July - Thursday 15th.  Negotiations are underway to get the much vaunted T Rippon League XI to play us to see just how good they are without their Bentley "Superstars" (not my words), but once we have lost that one we will be looking to play at least two other games in the week.  If you have a work team or are even another village team browsing through our website and fancy a game, please get in touch.

Colts Finals Day

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that Coxtie Green Road will be hosting Colts Finals Day in 2010 for the very first time.  It will held be on Sunday 5th September, with the U13 final and Kwik Cricket U8 tournament in the morning and the U15 and U11 final in the afternoon.  If you feel that you would like to help with the organisation of this, please let us know.  Any experience that any club member has of organising an event would be extremely useful.

District Selection

Dan Jessop (U15), Rob Hyams (U15), David Hickey (U13) and Jack Potticary (U13) have all been selected for the Mid-Essex District.  Congratulations to all four of them.
