Jack Petchey Awards Evening 2005

This was Bentley's first Jack Petchey Awards Evening and was held on the 15th October 2005 at the Clubhouse.  The evenings guest from the Foundation was Lee Thompson and the Agenda was as follows:

i)

Introduction by Chairman of Bentley C.C., Martin Larrett;

ii)

Presentation by Lee Thompson of certificates and medallions to the Award Winners;

iii) Vote of thanks by President of Bentley C.C., Nick Hammond

The donations from the Jack Petchey Foundations Achievement Grant Scheme have gone towards the purchase of several items during the period March 2004 to October 2005.  They are:

  • New Cricket Square used in 2005

  • New Changing Room Building

  • New Sight Screens

  • New Cricket Tea Tables

  • New Cricket Tea Refrigerator

  • Boundary Netting & Boundary Markers

  • Outside wooden picnic tables

  • New netting and matting for net area

  • Flix Wicket (plastic surface)

  • New mobile net

  • Plan to purchase a second mobile net

  • 7 Colts received additional professional coaching at Essex funded by grants

  • Replacement of Colts Cricket Training Equipment

 

The Award Winners at this presentation were for the period of March 2004 to October 2005, and the reason they achieved their awards can be found below.

 

March 2004 Hannah Courtnell Hannah's award was for the outstanding achievement of being selected for Essex U-11 Girls team - the first girl from Bentley to do so.  Since her award she has continued to develop her abilities representing Essex throughout 2005 and opening the bowling for the Colts U-13 side
April 2004 Stephen Coleman Stephen's award was for outstanding contribution to Colts cricket at U-11.  He coaches at this level with great dedication and success.
May 2004 Damian Larrett Damian's award was for work at U-9 level for year 2003 / 2004.  Introducing the game with the correct balance of fun and skill application.
June 2004 Richard Dines Richard was always available to assist our main U-10 coaches throughout 2003 and 2004.  His cheerful enthusiasm was enjoyed by all.
July 2004 Mark Windley Mark makes an outstanding contribution to the life of the Club, both as an U-10 coach and in the development of young players in our Sunday sides.  Since receiving the award Mark has also developed the Club website as a major communication tool between members and the wider community.
Aug 2004 Ryan Gregory Ryan's award is for outstanding personal performances at both colts and adult cricket throughout 2004.  Ryan also very successfully led the U-16 Colts section.  Since receiving the award Ryan has established himself in the Club 1st XI.
Sept 2004 Laurence Pulford Laurence's award is for his dedication and commitment to the Colts U-10 section.  This has resulted in many young people recognising cricket as a major hobby / interest.  Laurence also has given great service to the Club through Club committees.
Oct 2004 James Green James achieved his award for the quality of encouragement and support he showed as 3rd XI Captain in 2004, to the many young players introduced to adult cricket during the season.
Nov 2004 Chris Pether Chris's award is a similar award for the high quality of encouragement and support he showed as a Sunday 2nd XI Captain in 2004 prior to moving to University in 2005.
Dec 2004 Tom Poole Tom's award is for outstanding personal performances at both colts and adult cricket throughout 2004.  Since receiving the award Tom has broken into Club 1st XI contention on a regular basis.
Jan 2005 Matthew Coleman Matthew's award is for the commitment shown by him in supporting coaches at U-11 level in 2004.  He has since receiving the award supported the winter net programme and throughout 2005 the U-11 colts.
Feb 2005 Stuart Doncaster Stuart's award is for the commitment shown to support coaches at the winter net programme.  He has since receiving the award supported the U-11 coaches throughout 2005.
March 2005 Michael Geggus Michael's award is for commitment to supporting coaches in the winter net programme, and leadership in Colts U-15 & Colts U-16 sections.
April 2005 Mark Woodrow Mark's award is for the commitment shown to support coaches in the winter net programme.  Since receiving the award Mark has continued to support the U-11 colts section on a Friday throughout 2005.
May 2005 Phillip Coleman Phillip's award is for personal achievement.  He scored 93* in a 20 over match at Billericay for the U-13 section - 2 years older than himself.  It was an innings of great quality and maturity for his age batting the full 20 overs.
June 2005 Stephen Pagett Stephen's award is for service to U-13 cricket.  Stephen has been a consistent and outstanding help to coaches at U-13 level throughout 2005 quietly ensuring equipment and layouts are available whilst coaches concentrate on techniques.  Thanks you Stephen.
July 2005 Tom Stimpson Tom's award is also for service to U-13 cricket.  Like Stephen he has assisted coaches consistently with a real desire to help and encourage others.
Aug 2005 Jack Woodrow Jack's award is for commitment to the U-10/11 colts cricket coaches on a Friday throughout 2005.  His work has proved invaluable to coaches in assisting them to focus on skill development.
Sept 2005 Joe Wilson Joe's award is for personal achievement.  Joe always works at his game and having broken into the Club 1st XI returned the amazing analysis of 6 wickets for 8 runs against Pegasus & Corringham - an outstanding achievement.
Oct 2005 Chris Churchill Chris's award is for dedication to Bentley Cricket.  From the age of 10 Chris has always tried his hardest whenever he has represented the Club, and since being involved in adult cricket has reflected in his approach the Clubs mission statement in terms of enjoyment and desire to improve.
